Only recently, I downloaded this mod called the Roman Britain mod which lets the players play as Romans in Britain. The back story for that would be the Emperor has recalled the sixth legion and resigned to give up Britain to the barbarians. Rather than comply, the men of the sixth proclaimed their general, Flavius Claudius Constantinus, Emperor and vow to fight on for Britain and eventually to march on Rome.

That mod was amazing and those who still plays Total War Attila should really check this one out and play this difficult campaign. I still had trouble with rebels and vikings up even after 100 turns. They were so hell bent on destroying the Kingdom I’ve built.

Other than mods and all, Creative Assembly has announced the Age of Charlemagne. Other than the time period of the rise of the Roman Republic, I personally love the Early Middle Ages as things were chaotic than before and great people who stood up to the challenge to bring peace to their lands.

Over at the Total War Wiki, they even had an interesting back story for this upcoming DLC.

The world lays in tatters, exhausted, bleeding, scarred and burnt, the people desperate. But even after the apocalypse there are men willing to give everything to return to light, to knowledge, to civilisation. Whatever the cost, and whatever the means… It is the age of a chosen few, an age of greatness, when the first true kings built vast kingdoms from the ashes of past empires… it is the Age of Charlemagne.

The year is 768AD and, after the death of his father, Charlemagne is to share the Frankish throne alongside his brother. A situation that ill-befits a man of his vision, and their relationship clouds as he feels the fiery blood of his grandfather, Charles Martel, stir in his veins. Friends, enemies and opportunity populate a continent tired of conflict, the people eager for peace. Charlemagne finds himself at the head of a new age of education, religion and warfare, and sees all as tools to unite, stabilise… and expand.

The Saxons, the Saracens and the Vikings will all have something to say to a man of such ambition.

It will take guile, charm, intelligence and ruthlessness to succeed above all others.

Charles the Great, King of the Franks, the Father of Europe. Will you make your mark in his image, or will you become your own king?

Cha 3

For one, we know that there will be Saxons, Saracens and the Vikings. As to whether they are a playable faction will be known in the future updates from the development team. I would like to play as Wessex and conquer the European Lands except that there is one thing about waging wars.

In previous games, waging as many wars as you can muster does not have a significant impact on your empire. However, as far as I understand, there might be penalties for waging long wars against a faction. Penalties that will affect from within your Kingdom itself.

Am I excited for this DLC?

Yes I am, even though I do not like the way CA handle things with their DLCs but this may (stress on the word “may”) be a DLC worth your penny. It could be a total loss of a great potential and this DLC may also be the key to unlocking Total War Medieval 2 and eventually TW Empire 2.
