Can you name a single Batman board game that’s been released in the past few years? Neither can I, not without resorting to Google anyway. The fine folks at Legions of Gotham have put together a nice list should you be curious enough, but that isn’t the main point here. Arkham Asylum pretty much brought Batman back to the world of video games, so it’s fitting that Batman: Arkham City Escape does the same for board games.
Number of Players: 2
For Ages: 15+
Playing Time: 30 – 45 Minutes
In this game for two, one will don the cape and cowl of the Dark Knight (figuratively, but hey nobody’s stopping you) while his opponent takes control of the “Rogues Gallery”, made up of Arkham’s escaped inmates. The goals are simple: Batman has to apprehend the fugitives while the other player simply has to help them escape. Both are worth one Victory Point and the first player to reach 10VP wins.
There aren’t any images or teasers of the board itself, though we do get to see some of the cards we’d be using — inmates have special abilities and Batman has his iconic Utility Belt. Chances are we’ll be seeing other civilians and heroes in the mix, just like we did in the video games.
Batman: Arkham City Escape is is scheduled for a February 2013 release, designed and published by Cryptozoic Entertainment — a Californian team that has a line of original and licensed analogue games. Previous works include the World of Warcraft Trading Card Game and The Walking Dead Board game, so they know a thing or two about fun. They have an office in Singapore too!
Is anybody else looking forward to being the hero Gotham deserves once more?
